How many of us are holding onto a story that leaves a bad taste in our mouths? Usually, it’s the result of something we have done in the past that has created some regret, or the perception that we failed ourselves or did not live up to the expectations of others. Consider, just for a moment, the possibility that we have all come into this life to learn and better ourselves, to leave this life as a slightly better person than when we came in. If our lives were perfect without some form of struggle or challenging experience, there would be no soul growth whatsoever. We would bubble blissfully along and the lack of negativity or struggle in any way, shape, or form would leave us with no incentive to work through anything. We would remain stagnant like a flower bound tightly as a bud never reaching her perfect magnificent essence in full bloom.
It is through the challenges and perceived mistakes that we dig down to the core of who we really are and find a way to rise above them, or at the very least survive them. Despite our feelings of struggle and deep suffering, we have survived everything life has thrown at us so far. Some have taken each challenge like a determined mountain climber tackling every forward step showing strength and fortitude, others have cried and crawled and complained about their circumstances but at the end of the day, if you are reading this article you made it. You are still standing! Congratulations!
What if there were no mistakes? What if situations and tragedy have been placed neatly in our path to move us forward in our personal development? What if, through adversity we realized how strong we are, we surprise ourselves at how we show up for ourselves under the most adverse conditions? What if you by passed those perceived mistakes and your life went on a completely different trajectory? You would not be the beautiful person you are today. We need to step away from the judgment of situations that we are labeling as mistakes. They are experiences placed in our lives that force us to see something in ourselves. If you didn’t respond to a situation in the highest and best way, now you know better and when you know better you do better. It might take a few times. It might take a few years. Life might bring you to your knees but you keep getting back up and taking the next step. Adversity, is not a mistake. When you respond to a situation, you are doing the best you can at that moment in time. It’s so easy to judge and replay the situation and lament the what if scenarios. We sometimes forget that we are human. We need to take the judgment out of it. We need to allow ourselves to evolve and grow and it is through the struggle and for many of us, the dark night of the soul that we end up on the exact path we need to be on to return to our authentic selves.
The journey back to the soul is a life-long affair. We can be joyous, riding the waves of abundance at times, at others we can be literally crawling uphill in a thunderstorm covered in mud. Wherever you are in the journey, it is exactly where you need to be. I encourage you to shift your perspective around what is happening in your life that is causing you to suffer. Release the judgment of yourself and others around how you or they are reacting to life’s circumstances. We all need to travel our own path. We all need to stay in our lane. What we call mistakes are just detours or sign posts pointing us in a different direction. Through self-awareness we can detour, climb, conquer, and thrive. The point, is progress. Mistakes are like a trail of breadcrumbs to follow out of the forest. They seem to be setting us back, in reality, they are setting us free.
Change your perspective around the events happening in your life. Change your mind or your direction if you don’t like what is happening in your life. You have a choice. When we make excuses about why we can’t change we give our power away. It is time to stand in your power. It is time to live your best life. It is time to honor your soul and do what you came into this life to do. Everything that has happened in your life has lead you right here to where you are now. If you don’t like something about what is coming up in your life, change it. If it involves someone you love or a situation you cannot change, change your perspective about the person or situation. Release the judgment! Mistakes are experiences meant to create awareness for you about you. They shine a light on who we are and how we show up for ourselves and others. They are the stepping stones back to your authentic and beautiful self.
