I am sitting in my hotel room overlooking the city of Philadelphia. We were upgraded to a room on the 22nd floor and the city lights are just spectacular. My husband and I are here to help my son and his band move into a new place in S. Philly from Ithaca, N.Y. and it has been about 8 months since we’ve been on a vacation together, if you can call helping with a move a vacation. The moment I stepped off the plane, I felt so joyous and free. No dog walking, work, or chores for 5 glorious days! When we are in a state of joy our energetic vibration is so high, we become magnets for experiences to match our vibration, hence the room upgrade, the great weather, amazing restaurants we seem to chance upon and interesting people we are meeting. We are just past a difficult few months caring for our older son who was injured in a motorcycle crash and unable to walk or stand for 2 months. It was an emotionally and physically trying time for all of us so this trip to help our youngest son feels like a gift.
We have no agenda, and are allowing the days to unfold exactly as they need to. Since our son is 23, he and his roommates have a more relaxed approach to moving in than I do, which means there is a lot of guitar playing and singing and music interspersed with the actual unpacking of a box. We are totally fine with it as we have learned how to ride the subway to get to his place from downtown and have had time to wander around the city and see some interesting historical places and experience the culture of this beautiful place. Being in a state of complete joy here the past few days creates a feeling of being in the zone. The subway train pulls up right when we walk to the platform, my son and I chanced upon a delicious Italian restaurant and were serenaded through dinner by a woman singing and playing a grand piano, my husband and I walked into Macy’s which was housed in the most architecturally gorgeous building and I spent a couple hours shopping some great shoe sales, followed by people watching at an outdoor café. It is a gift to be able to put the stress of our everyday life on a hold for a minute and focus on BEING in the moment.
The magic of being in the moment happens because we are not giving any attention to what has happened prior to this moment, or what will happen tomorrow. If I am eating an heirloom tomato (grown by the waiter in his organic garden) I am savoring the delicious tomato in my salad. Being present to this moment, makes it last longer, creates such gratitude and brings me joy. I also believe it is sending a vibration out into the universe attracting more of the same, and I’m not talking about tomatoes. It is creating joy, it is releasing stress. What about living in the stress of everyday life you might ask? There was total stress happening here with us as well. My husband was navigating a large Uhaul truck down the narrowest one-way street with cars parked on one side and nowhere to back up or stop to unload, trying to meet the landlord on time to hand over keys, he ran over a neighbor’s potted plant, it was a really hot day and he had to block all access to other cars while trying to unload quickly and then injured his knee in the process due to the stress. Life is still happening, but we are not responding with resistance, we are going with the flow, focusing on the next moment and just allowing it to happen. We are not freaking out! I do what I can to help my son unpack, without imposing my agenda (which would include a target run at least) or stepping on his toes. Due to the premium parking situation, he didn’t want to lose his parking space, so we walked to Walgreens instead. At least they have a shower curtain, soap and toilet paper!
Our state of mind is a choice. We don’t have to respond in a negative way to situations, we can choose love, we can choose joy, we can choose to be optimistic. The positive energy of our response creates the resonance and attraction of the vibration of the next moment and experience. My phone completely died and not because of the battery. We walked to the neighborhood cell phone repair shop, where the owner fixed it and then talked to us about his life for about 40 minutes (which was really interesting), then he didn’t charge me for the repair! I could have freaked out about my phone being broken, but I just accepted the situation and it worked out. Some of you reading this are going to say what about my situation? It’s not my fault, I’m trying, I can’t help it are familiar default mindsets. This disempowering story, the victim mindset, is creating more of the same energy and negative results. We experience exactly what we are sending out in the world. You may not even realize you are creating anxiety or stress for yourself. It could be subconscious, but energy is not discerning. The echo, the experiences in our lives, are a mirror of our energy. Pay attention to what your thoughts are around the experiences happening to you. If you are angry, if you are frustrated, if you are feeling negative, the experience you are having will mirror back exactly that. If you want to change the experience, you must change your frequency or the vibration of your thinking. Positivity over negativity is the key to shifting your experience. We can’t control what is happening to us all the time, however, we can control how we respond to the situation! Give it a try, you might be surprised by the outcome.
