There will come a time when humanity will begin to see the value of living from the heart, to respond to situations with love instead of fear. A time when the relentless pursuit of happiness will not mean achieving a number like a bank balance or zip code. The desire to BE a better person (not better than your neighbor), being the best version of yourself will be the standard, the realization that we all rise as a collective by helping another human being because we feel a connection rather than competition and separation.
As we roll into 2018, people are looking at all those unmet 2017 goals. They’ve forgotten how far they have come. The adversity faced, and the milestones reached are long forgotten as they look at the goals yet to achieve. Sometimes it’s good to look back and measure the progress made. Ask who you have become as a human being, and reflect on the many choices made bringing you to exactly this moment in time. So much energy is wasted on anxiety, stress, depression and fear. If we could harness that energy and put it towards living in a place of miracles, perhaps more miracles will appear. It is true that we find what we seek. Dwell in possibility.
When I speak of opening of the heart, I am talking about responding to every situation with love. Perhaps someone in your family is hurting your feelings right now. Living from the heart space offers compassion for the suffering that person is going through causing their unpleasant behavior. It is separating from your victim story (that they are doing something TO YOU). It’s so easy to create the negative wounded response to the events happening rather than act from a place of compassion. Opening your heart means taking the high road, it means observing with detachment the negative situations presenting and not playing into the drama. It means pausing before you text, speak, or answer that phone call. Opening of the heart means loving unconditionally, which means being kind without a need for recognition or a thank you. It means creating and holding space for people around you who might be suffering and showing up to the best of their ability, which can often be far lower than your expectations. It means seeking help if you are the one suffering and the booze or food or shopping just isn’t solving your problems.
Living from the heart space recognizes the truth, it’s looking in the mirror and recognizing the lies you are telling yourself. It’s having the courage to love yourself enough to make a change. How many people have the lost their way? How many are locked in the prison of their own design coming up with a million reasons why they can’t honor themselves by choosing to be happy? How many have settled for mediocrity without entertaining the thought of greatness? Perhaps they don’t believe they deserve happiness, or feel trapped by circumstance. The road to happiness and authenticity can be wrought with peril, the great unknown, but a resulting joy that would far surpass anything possibly imagined. It takes courage, and often people are so comfortable in the discomfort, they refuse to stop playing the game and step into their authentic power. Time is fleeting, the time is NOW to find joy in life, to play, to live, to love each other. The time is now to forgive, to release the old story you have worn like a badge of honor. The time is NOW to begin to honor and love yourself.
Success, is knowing who you are and living in alignment with your authentic self. It’s not selling out. It’s not doing what the pack expects you to do. It’s sometimes having the strength to be divergent, the one who breaks the chain of conformity and pursues the dream regardless of expectation and outcome. Success is taking risks. It is knowing there are no wrong answers. A life lived to meet the expectations of others at the expense of yourself will smother the beautiful spirit you were born here to be. It denies the world of your gifts and talents. Every time you choose something at the expense of yourself and your truth, you put another nail in the coffin of your soul. Set boundaries, know your value, speak your truth, stand in your power. It is time to know who you came here to be, stop hiding in the shadows and stand firmly rooted in your truth. People may not like it at first, they are used to you following their agenda, however, over time they will come to respect you as you respect yourself. Be an example for your children how to live a life with purpose and integrity. The goal is far from meeting the external expectations, the income mark, carrying the right handbag, driving the right car. Who are you? That’s what matters! Be kind, be authentic!
Suffering is a choice. Turn off the news, stop the drama, drop the victim mindset, and be mindful of what you allow into your life. Be gentle with yourself. Open your heart, lose the agenda and find authenticity. Somewhere in there is the magnificent soul you came here to be. Honor yourself and find the courage to love completely unconditionally!
