Fear is the first thing that fires whenever life presents a challenge. Fear about the outcome, fear about survival both physical and emotional, fear about everything. There is a pressing need to run, but that is the exact opposite course of action. We must stand in the arena and face our fears, face our truth, face ourselves. Our courage may fail us, our doubts may sabotage us, however we have survived every situation we have faced to this point in our lives. We are far more powerful than we realize. We are far more than our thoughts, our story, our beliefs. Choosing to remain in the arena with our demons and doubts and fears will weaken them. The very act of courage, of facing the darkness will increase the light within. It will spark the very thing required to overcome the current situation.
All the players and events in our lives from family drama, conflict, illness, loss and crisis have been presented and perfectly packaged to move us forward. The cycle of fear has repeated, each time an opportunity to elevate and respond in a different way. Some have broken the chain and have created lives fulfilled, others have continued to circle the drain. It’s both a choice and an opportunity. What quality is required to overcome the current situation? What would help us move through the situation? Is it courage? Is it strength? Is it integrity? It is faith? Whatever it is, ask the Universe or God, or your higher self (whatever you want to call it) to uncover it. It is already within you, that aspect you seek, but it is buried deep within.
The moment we are faced with difficult situations is the time to face our fears. We must remain in the presence of the pain, observe what is being triggered, almost marinate in the discomfort. Only then will be able to transcend and release it. The more we run, the more it will chase us throughout our lives. It will in fact run us down and overcome us if we never face the truth, face the pain. For some reason, personal suffering is done alone. Every person feels like they are the only one going through an existential crisis or difficult time, as if every other human on the planet is drifting blissfully through life. It is at the very time we need connection that people withdraw, isolate, and remain alone in the suffering. Vulnerability is difficult when a person is already deep and in the dark, but this is the very time to reach out. Find a friend to lean on, a support group, a relative who will lift you not break you. Through community and love anything can be healed.
The most powerful tool for overcoming fear is love. Loving ourselves is the secret weapon. When we are immersed in love, the rest melts away. The constriction in the heart releases and in the process of letting go, we allow the answers to come. It’s kind of like holding our breath and expecting to breathe. It can’t happen simultaneously. We must take a deep breath, we must allow ourselves to breathe deeply and through that connection of breath to body to soul comes an invitation of peace, of love, of calm. From that heart centered space comes answers. True answers don’t come from a place of panic, stress, mental anguish. True answers come from the heart. Listen to the heart, it is waiting patiently for you. Even if it has been a lifetime of closing the heart to the people and circumstances around us, it is never too late. As we live and breathe, each moment is an opportunity to choose love. When we become whole and complete by loving ourselves completely, life becomes easier.
Love is responding to our situation with compassion and not judgment. Love is being gentle and kind to ourselves in stressful situations. Love could mean allowing for sleep, or a great conversation with a friend, or a good book snuggled up in bed. Love looks like anything that honors the light within us. Nothing can transcend fear faster than love. The vibration of love is the highest vibration available to us energetically. It elevates us. Fear is the lowest vibration, it drowns us, sometimes without our even knowing it. Love is the acceptance of everyone for who they are without an agenda. Love is the knowing and honoring of what we need to move forward. It could be nourishment, it could be joy, it could be creativity, it could be yoga or meditation. Loving ourselves could mean saying no despite the guilt prompting us to say yes. Loving ourselves might mean having the courage to go into the darkness of fear knowing we will come out the other side and be alright.
Love is taking the high road despite losing the argument or being judged and criticized. Fear is the need to be better than the other, to reach the finish line first, to push the others out of the way. Love is the holding of hands and running across the finish line together. It is humanity at its best. Fear creates separation instead of inclusion, fear of not being enough, of being judged, of being shamed keeps so many locked into negative behavior patterns. The collateral damage is great, both personally and for the people around someone living from a place of fear. Sometimes love requires us to save ourselves instead of being drowned trying to save someone else. Ultimately, the more we sacrifice ourselves because we feel it’s the right thing to do for the family, or the job, or whatever it is, the more we are torn apart. The further we drift from our true alignment, our core being, the more friction is invited in until the torque is so great things start to implode.
Sometimes, facing the very things that scare us changes our perspective. We realize that as we grow and align with our truth and our power, the things that used to bring us to our knees are more manageable. We can stand in our power without the fight, without a word. The evolution continues throughout our lives. Choices are made about how to deal with difficult and challenging times and once on the other side of it, perspective is gained.
Love is the magic balm for the soul. When poured over the flames of fear, love will transcend and shift the reality. The fire will still burn brightly but instead of consume us it will allow us to expand, to grow, to ignite the light within. Love is the main ingredient for true spiritual alchemy. Release the story, release the fear, pry your fingers off the very thing holding you back! The surrender and release of fear creates space for something even better to come into our lives. As we shed things that no longer serve us, it may seem devastating, heart wrenching, EGO breaking, but these difficult times trigger emotions within us. Through the experience, we reach down and find inner strength we didn’t realize we had. We can choose to spread our wings and fly or continue to be tossed in the surf. Either way, an evolution of the self will occur. True mastery is at the end of this rainbow, but great courage is required.
